Beauty and Grief
(c) 2012 Jon Trott
Beauty and Grief spin inside my prism
Colors spilling down across my cheeks
I’m not sure of anything except this thing
A man will find what a man truly seeks
If I write a story that denies self denial
If I sing a song that’s too sad to sing
My voice will break; my heart’s on trial
But still I find the tenderness you bring
Beauty and Grief they walk with me
Beauty and Grief they both must be
My teachers, friends, and lovers
For now until Love carries me… away.
My body yearns for your redemption
Enslaved by halves and my have-nots
My body yearns for touch of her
but the night brings only lonely thoughts
You know my glories know my fame
You wait anonymously for my name
And when I fall as fall I must (you knew)
You touch the hurts and hidden shame
Beauty and Grief they walk with me
Beauty and Grief they both must be
My teachers, friends, and lovers
For now until Love carries me… away.
